One of my favorite things to do outside on a beautiful day is shooting my bow. It’s fun, helps you focus, and improves any weaknesses during the off seasons. It also helps to keep up your muscle memory as well. It can even be a good distraction or breather from stressful moments.
In the spring time of 2018 things were a little different with being pregnant and in my final trimester then. Some might worry that it could harm the baby, but all honestly it don’t. Even the recoil of a firearm is harmless as long as it’s held correctly at the shoulder when fired.
Now just because your body is developing new life doesn’t mean your weak or disabled. It shows strength in a different way which is beyond beautiful. So if you feel capable to shoot, hunt, hike, etc. then keep at it.
The Changes
However, I did make some minor changes to continue shooting with a growing belly. One adjustment I made was lowering the draw weight a bit so that I wouldn’t overdo my energy. Another is leaning forward just enough when drawing back to keep from accidently popping the belly.
The last adjustment I made was paying more attention to my body and making sure I didn’t shoot more then what I felt I should. In my last few weeks, the baby was a lot more active. So keeping steady at times was an interesting challenge. Especially if he decided to flip or kick.
Every mom-to-be is different, so I encourage you to listen to your body and don’t push yourself to the full limit. You are developing precious cargo so keep living your normal outdoor life according to your own capabilities. Only YOU know what your able to do. Above all else, enjoy those little moments with your growing bundle of joy.
Has anyone else shot while they were pregnant? Or if your other half did?
