When I go out hunting I learn something new or about myself. It’s never a wasted time. Hunting is all about choices. Putting the time and effort into getting a successful hunt.
Last year, I chose to go for antlers. I had a few chances at some smaller bucks, but I decided to pass on them because it wasn’t my target buck. Those decisions led me to an unsuccessful deer harvest.
My Broadheads
This year, I decided to hunt for meat and if the buck had nice antlers that was the bonus. I was really excited about deer hunting season this year. We got sponsored by Black Widow Innovations for innovation PX2 for broadheads. I couldn’t wait to try them out.
What I like about these broadheads are the fact that they are fixed and not mechanical. These broadheads give me no worries about mechanical malfunction while I’m hunting big game. Also the ability to switch between 100 and 120 grains by changing the included tips to adapt to different hunts is awesome. I like using 120 grams for when I go bear hunting.
The shaft blade increases stability, strength and accuracy and is tougher on impact. Which I was looking for in a broadhead. My whitetail hunt sure tested that broadhead out.
The Wait…
I was sitting in the box blind, my husband was next to me waiting to capture the moment for me. While I was waiting, all was quiet except a squirrel chasing the birds away. I observed everything that was going on around me.
Hoping to get a glimpse of a deer. It was not quite sunset when the shadows started looking like deer and my mind starts to play tricks on me. Then my husband let me know he spotted a deer approaching our area and to get ready. I got my crossbow ready in anticipation.
Buck Moment
My heart started to pound and I took a few deep breaths to calm my nerves then I saw him. He came into view and I had only a few seconds to decide whether or not I was going to take him. It looked like he wasn’t going to stay long so I released my bolt. As I released my bolt, he turned slightly and I got him in the shoulder. It was a lung heart shot. But it was still a harvest shot. We waited a while before going to find him.
It didn’t take long to track the buck. We found him 20 yards away. After a few pics were taken, we tagged the deer, loaded him up onto the back of the truck and took him home. Now the real work begins. And that my friends is another story. Happy hunting you all. P.S. Ladies know how to hunt too…
